Ng's Home - The Riva

Ng's Home - The Riva

Not only should a space be filled up with functions, but also have to be shown as space itself.

Ng’s Residence is a 62 sq.m apartment, which originally had a rectangular L&D area. The flat could fulfill normal functions, yet it means nothing more than “it works”. The flat lost the spacious feeling that a 62 sqm size should give. Thus, our main focus on this project would be how to bring back its spacious feel. We rebuild the layout with a “Cross-sight”. Vertically we took out the storeroom wall to enlarge the dining area and replace the study room wall to a half-height glazed partition, bringing one’s eye to the depth of space when they enter the flat. Horizontally we build a floating wood panel across both L&D area above at the ceiling. This ‘cross’ of enlarged space & ceiling physical piece eventually creates a more spacious space. The space was then enriched by textured wood elements on white background, which provide another dimension to Ng’s home.
